After doing extensive research on my boyfriends surgeon (Dr Katz @ OrthoNY) I asked the opinion of a few wise professionals, I found his DR superbly qualified & many positive reviews. However, when we arrived the day of the surgery, I had almost instantly wished I had done more research on this facility (Executive Woods Ambulatory Surgery Center) & it only got worse. The first person you meet is the secretary & she was extremely rude. After checking in, my boyfriend was taken into the pre-operative area & "prepped" we were assured after he had meds to calm his nerves, we would be brought in to see him. As he was very nervous about this surgery & didn't want to be alone. Well over an hour later, when the blocks take maybe 10 minutes at most, I finally got to see my boyfriend for about 10 seconds before I had to leave, they only allow one person in for this brief period & his own mother was barely able to see him. I however am the one responsible for taking care of him now after his surgery & I didn't get to talk to the doctor once. Not even one word. But for the brief few seconds I did get to see my boyfriend, the only person I could ask anything to, was a nurse standing around & my question was what he had been given so far as I was concerned for my boyfriend. I was given a snotty response of "I gave him all the Anesthesia for the whole surgery already" what the hell is that suppose to mean? That is totally against the law, YOU MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT! You gave him something to relax (versed), & I'm stressed out enough & I didn't need her smart ass remark or for her to just walk away from me & snub my concern. I had to leave while the surgery was going on, & I rushed back in time for him to be in the post-op area, but I was still not allowed to see him. They made no attempt to find out who my boyfriend was going home with & tell me the discharge instructions, they gave some paper to his mother. IM THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO KNOW cuz I'm the one responsible for his safety for the next 48 hours. I was never told anything just "oh we r getting the discharge summary ready". Well they gave the discharge summary to the wrong person so I had no idea what the doctors orders were until I called back several times. Just before leaving I asked the post operative nurse what I was suppose to do if my boyfriend became nauseas, if I could give him some over the counter Dramamine. She said Oh NO! If the doctor wanted him to take anything he would have written a prescription, but the doctor didn't know those medicines made my boyfriend sick cuz I was never able to tell him, cuz I was not allowed to talk to him. Well before we made it home my boyfriend puked all over our car, twice & I had to call back again to get nausea meds, & go back to the pharmacy again to get it, causing more pain to my boyfriend in the car. It was an awful experience, I wouldn't recommend this facility to my worst enemy. I found many others had similar experiences. A little Too late. .
