Their billing practices are unethical and they severely lack follow up in their customer service. In December of 2012, I had nose surgery at the McKinney Surgery Center and had gone through the process of checking with my insurance company and with the McKinney Surgery Center on preapproval, in-network costs and an estimate of my portion of the procedure. After receiving the bill in February, the amount that we owed was triple what they estimated. They claimed that it was because when they called our deductible had been met but the insurance came back and said it hadn't. I agreed that this was true and accounted for 1200 of the total bill which was our deductible that hadn't previously been apart of the estimate. However, they are saying that we owe another 1,800 on top of that when they had originally told us we would owe 600. Beginning in February and going into May we called several times a month, and were told they would check into it and call us back. During this time, we did not receive phone calls back with their explanation on this matter. Finally, in May we received a notice from collections, which was quite frustrating since we had been in contact with the McKinney Surgery Center since February! After calling in May several times, and playing phone tag we finally spoke about the matter and again were told we would receive a call back. Again, no phone call back. After persistently calling a couple of days in a row I was able to talk to the manager who said she would discount it 20% but we would still owe more than double the original estimate. I kept being told that the original amount was an estimate. I am sorry but $600 is not an estimate of $1800. Next, they told us it was because they had to do more than they thought in the procedure, however, we never gave permission for this or agreed to any extra costs. Finally they said it was the ins. fault and they would resubmit the claim and get back to us. We heard from the last week via phone and were told they would now only discount it 10% and there is nothing more they can do and that they would send it to collection if we didn't pay.
