DON'T believe the average cost posted, These are facts from my explanation of benefits and phone calls with their billing representative. For the sleep study they billed my insurance $7,200 and for a portable cpap machine(reg retail $800-$1,500), they billed my insurance $11,130.00!!!! Yes, ELEVEN THOUSAND!! While they didn't receive that full amount, they did receive $4,732.90 for the study AND $3,453.80 for the machine. I called thinking certainly the machine amount had to be an error, but was told that, in fact, it wasn't and that basically they can charge whatever they want. Now I can't even trust the diagnosis that I have sleep apnea and use the machine because I don't know what the motivation for these overcharges really is.
