I am writing regarding a experience I had at your Miriam hospital with two of your phlebotomists you have on site. I went in to have routine blood work drawn and as I drove up to Miriam hospital I parked my car and headed upstairs to the 3rd floor labatory at the cancer institute for my doctor. As I waited in the waiting room 25 minutes I finally got called by a phlebotomists name Amanda and she brought me to the chair to draw blood. I was expecting her to ask for my date of birth and she didn’t . I had to ask her if she wanted it and she rudely said I know who you are don’t need to ask. She had a coworker on the side of her chair name Molly that seem like she was new to the department. My phlebotomists Amanda kept taking her mask out of her face and rubbing her nose and eyes. She proceed to put her mask back on her face . The phlebotomists Amanda started taking out the test tubes and all the equipments tips draw blood. Amanda didn’t ask for the name or date of birth seem like she was to preoccupied. Amanda was talking to her coworker about her pregnancy and how she due in the summer and hopefully this COVID-19 is done so she can have her baby without complication. Molly ask Amanda if she was having baby at Miriam hospital and she responded quickly saying heck no I’ll have my baby locally near a hospital I can trust my baby with. I thought wasn’t something to talk about especially around patients coming to Miriam hospital. She grabbed on glove to put on her hand . She only used one glove which I thought was odd after the COVID-19 situation going on. She went to draw blood on my right arm and as she was talking to her coworker and she poke into my arm and keep pushing down into my vein to point I has in pain from the needle. She wiggled the needle around and for about 30 seconds and the vein ended up blowing . I ask her if she had a butterfly needle because I have tiny veins and she responded ‘ I know how to do my job.’ She pulled out the same 20 gauge needle she used in my previous arm to do the other arm. She kept same glove on and went on to the other arm. As she was trying to find vein in my arm molly interrupted her and ask what time she going to lunch she told molly , ‘ whenever I’m done here’ I felt like I was interrupting their lunch time. I was thinking of just getting up and leaving but I needed this blood work done and read before weekend. The phlebotomist finally found my vein and got blood drawn and when she was done she put a bandage and told me I was done. I ask if she could put another bandage on my other arm because was still bleeding . She gave a hesitate sign and pull on out and put it on. I come to this hospital a lot for blood work due to my Illness but in the future I will let my doctors know to send my blood work to other facilities. I will drive the extra mile to get better service. I will be contacting the CEO of Miriam Hospital about this experience and also will be contacting your fellow hospitals and make them aware of my experience. I do advise in the future to educate your employees the importance of professionalism, respect for their patient, follow safety protocol and the COVID-19 safety protocol hospital have in place. Hopefully in the future your patients don’t experience the disrespect I receive from your employees.
